About Herpes Simplex Virus 2 IgM Test

Herpes Simplex Virus-2 or HSV-2 is one of the two types of viruses that cause herpes. It causes genital herpes, while HSV-1 causes oral herpes. It is identified by sores around the genitals and rectum, mainly below the waist though it can cause blisters in other places too. It is imperative to know that HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be present even in the absence of symptoms- blisters or groups of blisters on and around the genitals and rectum. When these blisters break, they leave behind tender sores. It causes a burning sensation and difficulty in urination. The HSV-2 Test uses a blood sample to check for the presence of antibodies that fight the HSV-2. Antibodies develop from around 3 weeks to 6 months after infection. The individual’s body responds by developing IgM antibodies.
