What is Optic Neuritis ?

Optic neuritis refers to the inflammation which damages the optic nerve. These nerves help to transmit visual information from the eye to the brain. This leads to recurring pain and vision issues. It may also be remarked as one of the initial symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis.

What are the Causes of Optic Neuritis ?

  • Myelin Oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disorder - causing inflammation to the optic nerve, spinal cord, or brain and recurrent attacks.n
  • Neuromyelitis Optica - inflammation affecting the optic nerve and spinal cord is seen and is more severe than multiple sclerosis.n
  • Multiple Sclerosis - in this condition, the autoimmune attacks the myelin sheath covering the nerve fibres in the brain.

It is inflammation of covering layers of the eye nerve and it can be recurrent. Usually it gets resolved on its own after few weeks. Follow your Doctor's advise.
