Allergen, Individual-Others Wool Test

also known as: Allergy Wool Enzyme Assay

Allergy is a health problem which affects people of all age group across the world. Asthma, atopic dermatitis and rhinitis are some of the common allergic diseases. There are a gamut of ways to explore and test the allergenic antibodies in the body in order to assess the amount of IgE present. Few of the test to test the present of it are skin test, RAST sp. IgE test, ELISA IgE specific test and Elimination challenge method. Most commonly used allergen test among the tests mentioned before is ELISA test.

Patch testing or skin test is not used widely as it can be used to test limited allergens and causes pain and irritation to the patient as well. Allergic eczematous contact sensitivity to lanolin occurs very rarely when multitudinous exposure of millions are accounted and taken into consideration. When hypersensitivity to lanolin does occur it is a painful experience for both the patient and the physician mainly because of the guises and disguises in which the material is constantly encountered. It is of utmost importance and use to have a precise knowledge of the constituent or constituents from which the patient is sensitive or which the cause of the allergy.

The patches of lanolin along with the two other source of the material is taken to perform the patch test on the patient encountering allergy against the lanolin. The chemicals used for the tests must be handled with care. Also, precaution must be taken while doing the patch test so that the allergy do not spread widely and cause severe irritation and problem to the patient.

The patch test is done to observe and conclude if allergy or sensitivity for a particular material or substance is present in the patient causing irritation, inflammation and other problems associated with allergy.

The test is firstly carried out on three random persons in order to rule out the primary irritancy. Then the test is carried out on the patient complaining about the allergy from lanolin only if in the above three cases no allergic reaction or irritation is caused. In case the patient has allergy of lanolin, a positive allergic reaction can be observed during the patch tests. When the patch test is performed using material other than lanolin on the patient, no allergic reaction will be found. The results are recorded in a table and studied carefully in order to conclude the final result.
