Allergy - Buckwheat Test

also known as: Allergy Buckwheat Enzyme Assay

Buckwheat is a commonly grown grain available worldwide. It is primarily used as a substitute for grains such as wheat, oats, and barley for people who are allergic to these. The seed is used for making various edible items like bread, flour, and noodles. Medically, it is very instrumental in treating high blood pressure, varicose vein, and retinal haemorrhage. However, buckwheat contains potent allergens leading to both food and inhaling allergies. The Buckwheat Allergy test is performed as a blood test to detect the level of Ige antibodies in the blood. It is conducted as Buckwheat Enzyme Assay test.

There are no prior preparations required for the test. You only need to wear clothes suitable for a blood test, such as a half-sleeved shirt.

The Allergy Buckwheat Test is used to identify the presence and level of Ige antibodies in the blood. It detects the allergens induced by buckwheat. It also gives some results that can be useful in preventing the patient from further serious damages. Asthma, wheezing, and rhinitis are some of the common outcomes of a severe buckwheat allergy. A life-threatening allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis can also result from buckwheat allergy. A lung disease like pulmonary haemosiderosis is also a potential disease as a corollary of buckwheat allergens. Abnormalities in breathing, bronchial irritations are other common occurrences resulting from this allergy.

The process for the Allergy Buckwheat Test involves a simple blood test. The doctor will attach an elastic band on your arm to control the blood flow. The patch of skin for taking blood is cleaned with alcohol. A needle is inserted in the vein to draw out the required amount of blood sample. The area is cleaned again and bandaged. The sample will then be tested for IgE antibodies in the laboratory.
