Commonly, this test is called as arterial blood gas (ABG) or blood gas analysis. This test is useful for predicting the acidic nature of blood or its pH. If we want to predict the blood’s fine oxygen-movement and elimination of carbon-di-oxide from the blood then, we are in need of blood gas analysis.

This test does not require any special preparation. In case, if we are afraid of needles then, we should be in calm position. As if we breathe fast then, it has ill-effects on outcomes of the test. We should not take any medicine before this test. Our doctor should be aware of the fact that what type of medicines, vitamins, supplements, and herbs are taking by us.

• The injection site has to undergo the process of sterilization with an antiseptic by a phlebotomist.
• After finding an artery, a needle has to be inserted into the artery. Then, we have to draw blood.
• After the removal of the needle from the area where the needle is inserted, bandage has to be provided to that area.
• A portable machine will analyze the blood sample.
