Brucella Antibody Test

Brucella Antibody Test

Brucella antibody test is a serological test that is used to detect the presence of Brucella antibodies in the blood. Such test is done on the blood serum and used to detect not only the antibodies but also the different agents that are responsible for their creation. If you are suffering from the symptoms such as fever, fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain and so on then you may be suffering from acute or chronic Brucellosis. In such cases, the blood test is done to detect the antibodies in the blood.

There is special preparation required for the test. You can eat the normal diet and drink anything you want. However, you should stay connected with your doctor before the test. The doctor should know the different medical conditions that you have and various medicines that you are taking. Based on that analysis, the particular instruction should be followed for an accurate result. Since it is a blood test, clothing plays a vital role so that the doctor can take the sample quickly. Foldable full sleeves, half sleeves or sleeveless shirt should be worn on the day of the test.

The presence of antibodies states that either you have a current infection or there was a mild infection in the past. Moreover, the test result will tell if the treatment is working efficiently or not. If the antibodies are present, the result is stated to be positive. However, if there is no current infection, then any past immunization can be the reason behind the presence of antibodies. In the case antibodies are present, the test is done of the blood serum to check the presence of antigens and know if the infection is current or not. If there are no antibodies that mean that the result is negative and no disease is there.

The test to detect the Brucella antibody in our blood is known as Brucella agglutination test. The skin and the needle are cleaned using the alcohol or other disinfectants. An elastic band is wrapped around the upper elbow to stop the blood flow, and it helps in letting the veins to grow big. Then the needle is injected into the vein, and the blood is collected in the tube attached to the needle. Your name is written on the tube, and the sample is sent to the lab. After the needle is ejected from the vein, a cotton pad is pressed against the injected area to stop the blood, and the band is unwrapped from the elbow.
