My uncle has a dvt (since oct 2022) in his right leg near the knee. He is currently being treated with warfarin. He started developing a boil like sore on the area where the dct is located, it has opened up now and it's oozing yellow fluid. A new sore has started just above that. The area surrounding it, is very red and inflamed and hard.

I had superficial blood clot due to a drip in my right hand for dengue treatment which resolved after using thrombophob ointment, but after 2 weeks, a blood clot in inner face of my left leg appeared (below the knee), I have very mild pain in my calf too for two days. Is this deep vein thrombosis or superficial thrombosis? Pain is negligible for two days and swelling is only at a point on inner face of leg not on calf.

If the doppler study is normal and not showing any thrombosis (clot), it may be an age-related pain. There may not be any relation between the covid vaccine and the leg pain because having pain after 40 days of the vaccination is unlikely due to adverse effect of the vaccination. Consult an orthopedician for better assessment and she may have to do physiotherapy.

Hello it is unlikely that your mom has dvt as she already on blood thinners. It can be a hematoma or ecchymosis due to her blood thinners. Stop the blood thinners and do a complete blood count and a coagulogram. You can share the pics in my inbox so that I can help in a better way. Regards.

I am taking spironolactone and bisoprolol for high blood pressure since december 2019. I am also on apixiban for a dvt in my right leg. I am a 74 years female. Since being on these meds I have put on a lot of weight, suffered with hair loss and severe knee pain (not arthritis). I also have problems with sleeping. Are there any alternative meds that might help with the side effects I am experiencing. Gp does not seem concerned.

Spiranolactone/ bisoprolol / apixaban all medicines seems to be started for valid indications. Spiranolactone may cause alopecia (hair loss) and also insomnia (sleep disturbance) bisoprolol and apixaban are very very less likely to result in the said adverse effect. Would like to know from you when was your dvt diagnosed and how long have you took apixaban and at what dose, was any scan done after 3 or 6 month interval to find residual dvt if any, and what was the cause for your dvt to decide duration of apixaban. Also would advice you few tests: 1) monitor daily bp morning and evening for 7 days 2) ecg and 2 d echo 3) lft, rft 4) fbs/ ppbs/ thyroid profile/ lipid profile based on the said investigation, would like to modify your treatment for hypertension and dvt you can consult me online after 7 days so I could help you with your problem.

Hi, my father is suffering with hernia. Doctor suggested to go with open surgery. What is the best method for this surgery? Open or laparoscopic?

Hernias don't go away on their own. Only surgery can repair a hernia. Many people are able to delay surgery for months or even years. And some people may never need surgery for a small hernia. But we have to look into the details of the problem. Let's have a detailed discussion to Ensure proper treatment.
