An immunoglobulin test is performed to measure the level of antibodies in the blood. Immunoglobulins, also known as antibodies are proteins made by the immune system to fight various bacteria, viruses, and toxins. Mainly, there are five types of immunoglobulins namely IgA, IgD, IgE, IgM, and IgG. IgD is mostly found on the surface of special immune cells called B-cells, regulating the B-cell function. The immunoglobulin D blood test helps determine the level of IgD in blood. It helps diagnose immune deficiencies in the body. In some cases, a sample of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is collected by a lab technician from the lower back using a lumbar puncture or a spinal tap.
For this test, no special preparation is required. You can get your blood test done with normal food intake. You can prefer to wear a sleeveless shirt or a loose full sleeve shirt which can be folded easily at the time of the test.
