Lupus Anticoagulant Profile Test

Lupus Anticoagulant Profile Test

Lupus Anticoagulant is a kind of autoantibody that prevents blood clotting. It works against the phospholipid in the cell lining. This interferes with the process of blood clotting and leads to serious problems such as conditions of heart blockage and excessive clotting. The Lupus Anticoagulant Profile test is used to examine the causes of continuous blood clotting. It also analyses the reason for repeated miscarriages. This test is used with a few other examinations to diagnose problems like the APA syndrome, excessive clotting disorder, and others. It is performed as a regular blood test. The results are tested in the lab.

There are no specific preparations required for this test. You should wear clothes which are suitable for a blood test like a half-sleeved t-shirt. If there are any severities, the doctor will inform you the desired changes in your daily schedule. Take a proper consultation regarding the medication you are on in order to avoid any interference with the test results.

The LPA Profile test is used for evaluating the cause of recurrent miscarriages and unexplained clotting of blood, known as thrombosis. This test helps in finding the reason for a prolonged PTT (Thromboplastic) test. It reveals the following conditions as well: Diagnosing the Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS) Diagnosing the condition of excessive clotting disorder known as thrombophilia Distinguishing Lupus Anticoagulant from other inhibitors

The blood sample taken for the test is done through the following process: An elastic band is wrapped around the upper arm in order to restrict the flow of blood. This also gives a better visibility to the veins for inserting the needle. The skin area for inserting the needle is cleaned with an alcohol pad. The needle is inserted into the vein to draw out the blood sample. Once the blood is collected, the elastic band is removed and the skin cleaned with cotton gauze. This sample is then sent to the lab for testing.
