Manganese test or Blood Manganese Level test determines the deficiency or excessiveness of manganese in the body and also of any manganese exposure. This test is usually done if any disease or toxicity is detected. This test is done not just to determine manganese levels but also for its compounds.
No vitamins, minerals or herbal supplements should be consumed for 7 days prior to the test. The test should be postponed for 96 hours or 4 days post administration of Gadolinium or Iodine containing contrast media. Inform the medical practitioner of any medical conditions or medications or supplements being used or if you have any allergic conditions, for the practitioner to have proper precautions. Inform the practitioner of any concerns like a feeling of being nauseated, lightheaded, or have fainted earlier when blood is being drawn or post blood collection for the practitioner to be prepared. Use convenient clothing that makes blood collection easy for the medical technician.
Vein from which the blood is to be collected is held tight with a tourniquet. The skin where the blood is collected from the vein is cleaned. Blood is collected by inserting a needle into the vein and the blood is squeezed into the blood collector tubes. You’re asked to stay still while the blood is being collected. Now a bandage, cotton ball, or gauze is placed over the part from where blood is collected and is held tight with some pressure to avoid any further blood overflow. No severe exercises are to be done immediately after drawing blood. Contact the doctor incase if any redness, swelling or so.
