When Should You Go For A Hearing Test?

Here are 6 signs to watch out for that could indicate 'You need to get your Ears tested':

1. Your TV is blaring: Do you often find people around you shouting above the TV sound complaining that it's too loud? When you find it hard to hear the TV at the average volume and find yourself turning up the sound, this could signify a hearing loss. Doctors are seeing a growing number of patients visiting them after prolonged exposure to loud music and sounds.

2. You find it hard to hear phone conversations: Do you find yourself asking the person on the other end of the phone line to 'repeat' themselves, or find yourself pressing the phone instrument right into your ear? If you are trying so hard to hear, you might find yourself missing out on bits of the conversation as focussing to clearly hear the conversation is exhausting work. Getting a hearing test might be a good option if this sounds like you.

3. You have trouble hearing in noisy environments: When you are out dining with friends or family at a busy restaurant or accompanying a friend shopping in a busy street, all that background noise makes it difficult to hear what the people are saying. People with hearing loss often have problems masking out background noise.

4. Family members telling 'you're going deaf': Trust the views of the people closest to you, they never lie about your health. Family members often are the first to sense signs of hearing loss as they find themselves repeating things to you or calling out louder to get your 'attention'.

5. Leaning closer: You find yourself leaning closer to people to follow the conversation or staring at their lips trying to lip-read what's being said.

6. Avoiding social interactions: You find yourself staying away from social occasions, family gatherings or avoid being the first to start conversations. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an ENT specialist.

Pregnancy tests

All women in the world go through this process called pregnancy. Pregnancy and its gestation period is highly stress demanding time.becoming mother is lovely but one must be prepared for it. So before conceiving a child we must confirm pregnancy, because we may want or we may not so it will be easy to make a decision before starting with anything. There are many drug kits like prega news which can give you the correct result. This kit is used in private.

As there are many pregnancy kits in the market, there are many traditional methods used by our grandmothers. It uses medicinal and natural ingredients as well as being safe and efficient.

Benefits

Kits available in the market can be used but home made tests can have many benefits like:

  • Using natural ingredients for pregnancy tests is easy and nobody will be able to know about it if you do not want to expose it.
  • Ingredients which are used in home made tests are found normally in the kitchen.
  • This test can be performed at home easily and comfortably.
  • Homemade test’s ingredients are cost effective.
  • Ingredients used do not expire so good to use.

Principle

When a woman gets fertilized and starts to  conceive the embryo, the fertilized egg descends from the fallopian tube and attaches itself to the uterine wall. At the stage of placenta formation embryos start producing a hormone called  human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This hormone enters the bloodstream and in urine.  The test( home made or kit ) uses antibodies of this hcg in the urine to detect the pregnancy in women.

When women get pregnant she misses the successive period. During which HCG hormone concentration increases. So women must check it after her first miss of the period. We should check for pregnancy twice or thrice because it is difficult to get results.

When women don't keep up with their menstruation cycle, there are chances of miscalculation of period date and women menstruate at different times in months. This might be a sign of pregnancy by miss date but must be confirmed with a pregnancy test.

  • 5 mIU/ml of HCG is a negative test.
  • 6 mIU/ml and 24 mIU/ml of HCG is a unsure test.
  • 25 mIU/ml of HCG is a positive result test.

Natural test

Salt in the kitchen can be used to test. Ingredients needed are the morning urine sample, salt, and glass to mix.

  • Take a morning urine sample and a pinch of salt in a glass. Mix it well and wait for three minutes.
  • After reaction creamy white clumps are formed which get positive results.
  • If there is no formation of white clumps, you are not pregnant.

Sugar in the kitchen can be used in this test. Ingredients needed are morning urine samples, sugar, and glass to mix.

  • Take a morning urine sample and add sugar in a glass.mix it well and wait.
  • HCG  urine does not dissolve the sugar, it forms the lumps this means you are pregnant.
  • If sugar gets dissolved, you are pregnant.

We eat Wheat and barley in our diet. We can use it to determine the pregnancy. In this the principle is that seed if wheat and barley germinate at double rate in that urine. Ingredients required are wheat seed, urine sample, glass bowl.

  • Put wheat and barley seeds into a bowl and add the urine sample. Leave it for 2 days.
  • If seeds germinate you are pregnant.
  • If seeds do not germinate you are not pregnant.

This mustard is used. Principle is that mustard helps to generate the heat in the body which helps activate the period. Ingredients needed are half cup mustard powder, and warm water in a tub.

  • In a warm water tub add mustard powder and immerse  yourself in it for 20 days. Wait for 2 and 3 days to see periods.
  • If you get periods you are not pregnant.
  • If you do not get a period, you are pregnant.

Dandelion plants can give you an accurate test for pregnancy. Ingredients needed are dandelion leaves, plastic sheet, and morning urine sample.

  1. Take a plastic sheet and spread dandelion leaves on it. Pour the urine sample over it and wait for 15 min.
  2. If you are pregnant, the leaves turn to reddish-brown or bubble formation takes place.
  3. If you are not pregnant, there will be no changes in the leaves color.

A test is done by storing urine. Items needed are a glass jar and a morning urine sample.

  • Take the morning urine and place it in a glass jar.
  • If there is a layer formation in the jar, you are pregnant.
  • If there is no formation in the jar you are not pregnant.

Wine can be used to detect pregnancy. Ingredients needed are morning urine samples and wine.

  • Mix the urine and wine. Let it rest for a few minutes.
  • If the color changes of the wine, then you are pregnant.
  • If color doesn't change, then you are not pregnant.

In this test you need tuna extract juice, white vinegar, and urine samples.

  • Take the tuna juice and white vinegar. For a day of gap add the urine in it.
  • If the green color comes out you are pregnant.
  • If the yellow color comes out, then you are not pregnant.

Take a small amount of toothpaste  and mix it with urine. If it turns blue and frothy you are pregnant. No reaction means you are not pregnant.

Basal body temperature in the morning remains 37 degrees when you are pregnant. If it is lower than 37 degrees you are not pregnant.

Conclusion

Pregnancy can be a stressful and important decision to make, so we should be confirmed on this matter. Natural tests are easy and efficient. If you have any problem related to its complications please visit a doctor

Why and When Should I Go for HPV Test?

Why and When Should I Go for HPV Test?

Persistent infection of the uterine cervix with high risk human papilloma virus (HPV) leads to development of cervical cancer. Infection with HPV is common especially in sexually active young women, most infections are transient and spontaneously clear within 1 to 2 years without causing cancer. These transient infections may cause temporary changes in cervical cells. If a cervical infection with high risk HPV type persists the cellular changes can eventually develop into more severe precancerous lesions. If pre cancerous lesions are not treated, they can progress to cancer. Thus, an HPV DNA test is recommended to identify the high risk types of HPV.

Why is Pap Smear done?

An HPV test is done to:

Check for high-risk types of human papillomavirus (HPV) in women who had a Pap test that showed abnormal cervical cells called atypical squamous cells (ASCUS). An HPV test can help look for one or more high-risk types of HPV.
Check for HPV in women older than age 30 as part of screening for abnormal cervical cells.
Help check for abnormal cervical cells after treatment of a high-risk HPV infection.

When should one get screened for cervical cancer?

American Cancer Society does not recommend using HPV DNA test to screen for cervical cancer in females under 30. This is because females in their twenties who are sexually active are much more likely (than older females) to have a HPV infection that goes away on its own. For these young females, results of this test are not as significant and may be confusing.

For females age 30 and older, Pap & HPV co testing is less likely to miss an abnormality (i.e. lower false negative rate than pap testing alone. It also lengthens the screening interval to 5 years and still allows abnormalities to be detected in time to treat them.

Women of age >65 yrs who have had adequate screening history or those who have had total hysterectomy do not need any further screening.

HPV TEST

Is HPV test as safe and effective as Pap Smear?

The advantage of the HPV test is that the Pap test misses a fair number of carcinomas as it has a lower sensitivity. Studies have also shown that a negative HPV test is better at predicting that a woman will be free of lesions for the next three years than a negative Pap test.

And while the experience for the patient is the same for both tests, the HPV test requires less material from the cervix to detect an infection so there's less concern that a sample will be inadequate.

How is the HPV test performed?
Before an HPV test, do not douche, use tampons, or use vaginal medicines for at least 48 hours.
In the HPV test, a doctor takes a swab of cells from the cervix, just as for the Pap test. The cells are then analyzed in a laboratory. The genetic material (DNA) of the HPV virus is studied. This test can identify 13 or 14 of the high-risk HPV types associated with cervical cancer. HPV test results are generally available in 1 to 2 weeks.

You may have a small amount of vaginal bleeding or gray-green discharge after this test.

Self Test For Neurological Problems!

It is very important for any individual suffering from a neurological disorder to take medical assistance. The possible neurological condition can be diagnosed by doing some medical examinations. Some of the examinations that are conducted for diagnosis include a neurological exam, genetic screening, brain scans and many other tests.

Malfunction of the brain can be caused in more than one region of the brain like frontal cortex, anterior cingulate, Parietal cortex and Basal ganglia. It is very important that symptoms are noticed and required tests are done immediately. In case of malfunctioning in the Basal ganglia, there are chances that patients experience more anxiety and avoid clashes in life excessively.

Self - assessment test for neurological disorders

  • Self-assessment and self-administered tests can identify the presence of the neurological disorder, but it is best to seek medical assistance in such cases. The self-assessment tests can be done by an individual when they face symptoms like problems in urinating, difficulty in concentrating, problems with writing and holding objects, and experiencing blurred vision.
  • It is important for an individual facing complaints like a headache, numbness in the arms or legs, changes in behaviour, fatigue, blurry vision, slurred speech, weakness and changes in coordination to contact a medical professional. The thought of neurological disorder itself is very threatening and understanding the drug options available is very important.

Medications Used
The type of medication prescribed to the patients depends mainly on the condition of the neurological disorder. Some of the drugs that are prescribed include corticosteroids. These are provided for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and decrease inflammation. Levodopa is a drug used mainly for treating Parkinson’s disease. In addition to physical examination and complete medical history, the diagnostic procedures that are carried out for neurological disorders include Computer Tomography scan (CT scan), Electroencephalogram (EEG), Electromyography (EMG) and Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Important Tips to Consider
The drugs used for treating neurological disorders also cause some side effects. In some cases, patients even develop a drug addiction. In such cases, the two critical components of drug addiction like withdrawal and dependence should be understood very well. Dependence on the drug occurs mainly when the patient takes the medication for a prolonged period of time. Further, depending on the nature of the medication and personal situation of the patient, addiction develops quickly. The patient tends to experience withdrawal symptoms if they become dependent on the medication and when they abruptly stop taking it. The symptoms that are caused in this situation include nausea, tremor, and headache. There are many other diagnostic tests also carried out that are useful and prevent further damage to the nervous system.
For more information, you must contact a medical professional near you.

Allergy Test - Know More About It!

Allergy is a condition in the human body in which the body reacts to the particles in the environment which are harmless otherwise. These particles are called allergens. Some people have a highly reactive and active immune system. Even a small amount of allergens in the body are identified by the immune system and cause inflammation and reactive conditions in the body. Most of the time it is harmless and does not create a problem. But, if a person is facing problems for more than three months in a year, one should consult an ENT for the same.

Causes of Allergy:

Causes of allergies are unknown and can be due to any reason. There is no definite cause for allergies in a patient. Some people may have an allergy due to dust, or pollen, or even animals and food. There is no single reason for the allergy; every allergy is different, and every reaction to the allergy is different.

There are many common types of allergens which cause allergies like house pet hairs, wool, chemicals used in the house, dust or pollen particles, etc. Allergies mostly occur more often in winters as the houses are closed and packed. Some people have a seasonal allergy, and some suffer from perennial allergy, depending upon the immune system of a particular person.

Symptoms of Allergy:

There are no definitive symptoms of allergies. Most symptoms of allergies include a runny nose, congestion, infections in the ears or skin, redness, water in the eyes, and many more. Every allergy symptom is different since it is highly dependent upon one's immune system and its reaction.

Allergy Test:

The treatment of the Allergy highly depends upon the allergy test. ENT doctors can test the allergy since they determine the source of the allergy and assess as of how to manage it. It is rare for allergies to be life-threatening, but prolonged inflammation and infections in the body can affect the system in a later phase. ENT doctors determine the reaction of hypersensitivity in the body and observe whether they are creating some disruption in the body system or not.

There are some tests available for testing allergies. The most common methods are pricking test and the intradermal test. Most doctors opt for a combination of both methods as the results are more reliable.

Treatment:

Once doctors have completed the tests and determined the condition of the patient, they suggest either allergen avoidance or medication.

  1. Allergen Avoidance: It is the best method to treat allergic patients. In this treatment, the patient is asked to avoid the allergen for safety. However, this method only works when the allergen can be practically avoided. For example, if a patient is allergic to dust, he may prevent dust by covering his bed and pillows with special covers that block dust and kill dust mites.

  2. Medications: Medicines are prescribed to the patient when avoidance is not practical or to reduce the impact of the reactive immune system to ease the symptoms.

People often neglect allergy tests since the symptoms are not worse. But timely checkups and tests are recommended by the doctors for healthy living. Also, if a person is suffering from any type of allergies, seeking immediate help is always recommended and necessary for a healthy life.

Pap Test - All About It!

The Pap Smear Test or the Pap Test is a screening test for cervical cancer. This test helps in detecting the possible growth and presence of precancerous as well as cancerous cells within the cervix - the opening of the uterus. This test was named after the doctor who discovered its use when it comes to detecting the signs of the early onset of this kind of cancer. Let us find out more about the Pap Smear Test.

Reasons: The main reason behind getting a Pap Smear Test done on a regular basis is to rule out any risk or sign of cervical cancer. Also, it can help in detecting the 40 sexually transmitted viruses that may be lurking around in your system. It is a fact that genital warts are born from the presence of the Human Papillomavirus or HPV which can be of 100 different types - out of which 40 lead to STDs. These STDs can be the start point of cervical cancer.

HPV and the Pap Smear test: The Pap Smear Test may not be able to detect the exact kind of virus, but it can easily detect any cellular growth and changes that may be caused due to the virus. This helps in homing on to the risk or the beginning of cancer. In case this is detected, then the treatment can start before the problem becomes too difficult to manage.

Candidates: The perfect candidates for the Pap Smear Test include women who have crossed the age of 21 years or above. Also, women who have a weak immune system due to the presence of the HIV virus also need to get this test done regularly as they are prone to the risk of contracting cancer and infections, more than others. Once a woman over 30 years of age have had three normal Pap Smear readings in a row, she can ask her doctor to schedule her for a Pap Smear Test once in five years.

Preparation: To begin with, you must ensure that you are not menstruating on the day of the test, in which case it will have to be rescheduled. Avoid having sex at least a few nights before the test as well.

Procedure: The procedure for the test is pretty quick, but a little uncomfortable. The doctor will ask you to lie down before putting your legs up in stirrups and then insert a speculum into the vagina so as to extract sample cells for testing. The scraping action may cause mild pain later.

Get in touch with your doctor about getting regular Pap Smears to rule out the possibility of cervical cancer.

Syphilis - How To Test It?

Syphilis is one of the most communicable sexually transmitted diseases. If left untreated, syphilis can be fatal. It can lead to heart disease, brain damage and blindness. A woman infected with syphilis can also pass it on unknowingly to her baby if she suffers from the disease when pregnant. Syphilis can be easily treated but if left too late, the antibiotics that treat it cannot reverse the damage caused by syphilis.

Syphilis can be tested by

-  A blood test
In most cases, a simple blood test can confirm the presence of syphilis by showing signs of the antibodies used to fight it.

-  Testing the fluid from the sores
This is usually done in the case of primary or secondary syphilis when sores are present on the patient's skin. Looking at a scraping of the sore under a microscope can be used to diagnose syphilis if it shows the presence of the syphilis bacteria.

-  Testing cerebral spinal fluid

This is performed only in extreme cases of syphilis where the disease may have caused complications with your nervous system.
The earlier syphilis is diagnosed, the easier it is to treat. Syphilis is usually treated with antibiotics amongst which penicillin is the most preferred. If you've had syphilis for less than a year, a single injected dose of penicillin can stop the disease from progressing. You may need additional doses if you have been suffering from syphilis for longer than a year. Penicillin is also the only antibiotic that can cure syphilis and suits pregnant women. If you have been diagnosed with syphilis while pregnant, your baby should also be treated for it.

When undergoing treatment for syphilis here are a few other points to keep in mind

-  Abstain from oral. Vaginal and anal sex until the sores have healed.
-  Get blood tests at regular intervals for atleast a year after treatment.
-  Get tested for an HIV infection
-  Fevers, nausea, headaches and chills are normal side effects associated with syphilis treatment.
-  If you are allergic to penicillin, let your doctor know so that you can be given an alternative antibiotic.
-  If you have a lesion around your mouth, syphilis can even spread trough kissing another person.

The good news is that once you've been cured of syphilis, it does not recur. However, it recommended to always use protection while having intercourse and abstain from sexual activities if your partner suffers from syphilis.

Comprehensive Eye Test - How Is It Vital?

Comprehensive Eye Test - How Is It Vital?

While an eye exam should be conducted for anybody at least every six months, many people do not believe it to be so important. However, there are benefits to having a comprehensive eye exam. But, what exactly are these benefits?

Eye Check-ups are Indicative

To start with, when one goes for an eye exam, problems relating not just to the eyes can be discovered. As a matter of fact, an ophthalmologist or an eye specialist is quite often the first person to detect problems with the entire body. These problems include diabetes and hypertension. It can be said that a person who has healthy eyes is more likely to be in the pink of health! When a person has a health issue detected early by an eye doctor, it can result in easier treatment - easier on the person as well as on the pocket!

Catch your ailments early

It can be said that eye exams are very important for children as having bad eyesight which goes uncorrected can have some really serious consequences. The strain on the child’s eyes due to school work like staring at the board with weak eyes can cause very bad headaches and the situation gets worse. Children usually do not have a proper idea of what normal vision is like so they are more likely to not notice a decrease in the quality of vision. This really does increase the need for eye exams for them.

Eye exams are different from vision tests

Many people are of the opinion that getting their eyes checked is the same as having an eye exam. However, it is to be noted that this is not the same. A person who does not have advanced medical qualifications when it comes to the eyes usually conducts a vision test. This could be a nurse or an optometrist. They actually do not dig much further beneath the surface, so they miss out the critical bits!

Eye alignment matters

The truth is that only an eye doctor knows what exactly to look for when an eye exam is conducted. So what exactly does an eye doctor look for? Apart from early signs of glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, the eye doctor would look for strabismus. This refers to the alignment of the eyes. When the eyes are not properly aligned, depth perception suffers and this can cause serious damage, especially if a person drives.

Apart from these, the doctor would also look at how well one’s eyes work and whether there are any age-related diseases.
