PCT or Postcoital Test may be a popular phrase in the diagnostic world. But what is it and why it is happening is on a hazy side. PCT is related to the mucus of women. While the women feel abnormalities or facing infertility the doctors prescribed Postcoital Test to examine the exact cause. This test shows any connection between man and woman. In case the couple has connected and the female side is facing an abundance of mucus, then the physician takes the mucus sample from cervical canal and spread that on a glass slide. After adding a limited quantity of posterior fornix, the sperm shows its movements in mucus. This is the base of PCT. The examination is to see man's sperm's presence in woman's mucus.

The timing of PCT is vital. As mucus evaluates with the organic system of the woman, therefore, the exact sample would be lost. The doctors say that the test must be done within 8hours after intercourse. Early morning appointments are the general time for this test. The woman needs to reach after intercourse and at least 2 days before of ovulation. Mainly, maintaining the right time is the utmost clause of preparation for Postcoital Test.

The timing is important because while the mucus is being thick after the 8 hours. If it's ovulated, then the sperm's presence at last intercourse can't be detected. The patient has to wait for the normal cycle and then for another intercourse to create the sample. PCT needs thin and stretchy mucus where the sperm can easily move. Without sperm movement, the test can't be succeeded.
