PR or Progesterone Receptor, most commonly termed as NR3C3, is a type of hormone containing steroid inside the cells. PR of Progesterone receptors are usually available in the cancer affected cells in the breasts of the women. It is essential that detection of breast cancer should be tested for the presence of progesterone receptors. The testing should be done in a standard laboratory with proper procedure and specification. The presence of progesterone or PR in the breast cells may cause various hormones to malfunction and may also affect the growth and development of the breast in a normal manner.
In most of the cases it has been found that hormone therapy proves to be very beneficial in avoiding further growth of the cancer cells. In many cases it slows the process of growth of the cancerous tumour. Many types of medicines are also available in the market and the most commonly used medicines are Novadex also known as tamoxifen and it is suitable for all age group. In other cases it is important to remove the ovaries through surgery or through injections to stop the growth of PR (Progesterone).
It is very much important that any early detection of tumour in the breast should be diagnosed with PR (Progesterone) status. If even 1% of positive PR is detected it is essential that the individual immediately consult their doctor for proper treatment. The testing is very much essential for all those parts of the body where the cancerous cells might have affected. It is also very much essential that the testing should essentially be done only in a laboratory which follows all the necessary and specific requirements and standard protocol of such testing.
The testing of the cancerous tumours of the breast is very much essential for proper and standard diagnosis and treatment. The importance of accurate testing is very much essential for successful treatment and proper medication and the testing should be done in a lavatory which follows all the standard testing protocol. The testing of PR or Progesterone receptors also called immunohistochemistry (IHC) is done through detecting the PR presence from testing the tissues which are collected as samples and most commonly known as biopsy. In most of the cases the treatment may require the removal of the tumour or the breast as a whole.
