X-Ray Foot AP Test

X-Ray Foot AP Test

X-ray foot AP which is commonly known as foot radiographs are done in emergency departments usually associated with sports-related trauma and sometimes with the clinical request for border pain. The x-ray foot AP is advised mainly due to the traumatic injuries to the foot. The basic review for the foot radiographs starts with the AP and lateral views which include views of entire foot and ankle. There are different types of view associated with the x-ray of foot and one of the views is known as the dorsoplantar view which is used to examine the phalanges, metatarsals and tarsal bones which make up the foot.

The x-ray foot AP is basically related to the radiography of emergency trauma in the foot and doesn't require any beforehand preparation from the patient's side. Regular food and diet can be carried on by the patient before coming to the laboratory for the check of x-ray foot AP. Any dress can be worn while coming but it is advisable to wear some short bottom dress or something loose which can be lifted during the x-ray foot process. No fasting is needed for the process of x- ray foot AP to take place. Apart from this, there is no further preparation which is needed to be done from the patient's side unless directed by the doctors.

The trauma caused to the foot can be diagnosed by the use of x-ray foot AP or the foot radiographs. The x-ray shows the complete scanned image of the foot with different angles hence covering all the areas were injuries chances are there. The x-ray foot AP helps in finding out the injuries and trauma in the foot of the patient of both the present nature as well as that of the past nature. Sports-related trauma and emergency injuries to the foot can be easily diagnosed using the X-ray foot AP.

The procedure for the x-ray foot AP or the foot radiograph is similar to the other x-rays but there
are few technical factors and patient position factors which are needed to be taken care of. The
patient position needed to be taken care during the process is as follows:
• The patient may be supine or upright depending on comfort.
• The affected leg must be flexed enough that the plantar aspect of the foot is resting on the
image receptor.
The technical factors which should be taken care of are as follows:
• X-RAY beam centered to the base of the 3rd metatarsal.

• The beam must be angled approximately 10° posteriorly towards the calcaneus to mimic the
arch of the foot; this may change if the arch is high or flat.

Average price range of the test is between Rs.250 to Rs.500 depending on the factors of city, quality and availablity.
