The drug is a lipid-based synthetic analogue of Thymine or Vitamin B1 with greater bioavailability than other Thiamine salts. It is dephosphorylated by ecto-alkaline phosphatases to S-benzoylthiamine in the intestinal mucosa, which is then hydrolyzed to thiamine by liver thioesterases. It is basically a supplement used for treating low level of carnitine in the blood. Carnitine is required by the body for energy and keeping the body in good health. People with kidney dialysis may have inadequate carnitine in the blood which might result liver, heart and muscle problems.
