About Akurit-3 Tablet

This medication is composed of Rifampicin, Isoniazid and Ethambutol. It belongs to the rifamycin group of antibiotics and treats numerous bacterial infections like leprosy, tuberculosis and Legionnaire's disease. This medicine works by interfering and preventing the production of RNA by bacteria.

Patients with a hypersensitivity to this drug are not recommended this medicine. Your dosage will be as prescribed by your doctor as per your age, weight and medical condition. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should exercise caution.

    How does this medication work?

    The drug inhibits bacterial RNA polymerase which is the enzyme responsible for the transcription of DNA. It binds and prevents RNA synthesis by blocking elongation and synthesis of bacterial proteins. The drug blocks the bond between nucleotides in the RNA backbone. It works by inhibiting the enzyme arabinosyl transferase and stops mycobacterium cell wall synthesis by inhibiting the polymerization of arabinolgycan which is an essential component of cell wall synthesis.
