How does this medication work?
This syrup is a synthetic secretolytic agent which help the natural mechanisms to clear respiratory tract mucus. It increases serous mucus production in respiratory tract and reduces phlegm viscosity, which helps the cilia to clear mucus from the respiratory tract. This medicine is also assigned to stimulation via beta-adrenergic receptors of the intracellular adenylyl cyclase. The intracellular adenyl cyclase enzyme causes conversion of adenosine triphosphate into adenosine monophosphate. It also works by triggering the TRPM8 receptors in the skin that are cold-sensitive. It does that by blocking calcium currents of the neuronal membrane. Through kappa-opioid receptor agonism, it can also produce analgesic characteristics. Lastly, it works as an expectorant which reduces adhesiveness and surface tension of congealed mucous in upper respiratory tract to increase flow of mucous, stimulating and increasing efficiency of the cilia to remove the accumulated mucous.
