Atarax 25 MG Tablet acts as an antidepressant and provides relief in cases of anxiety or tension. Atarax 25 MG Tablet is a sedative that lowers the activity of the nervous system. It also works as an antihistamine. It acts as an antidepressant and provides relief in cases of anxiety or tension. Atarax 25 MG Tablet is also used to cure certain skin allergies. It can also be used in combination with other medications for the purpose of anesthesia.
Using Atarax 25 MG Tablet may give rise to certain minor or severe reactions. The minor reactions are shakiness, tremors, drying of the mouth, headache or migraine, hallucinations. Serious side effects include chest pain, cough, dizziness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, skin rashes, difficulty breathing, and fatigue, swelling of the face, eyes, lips or mouth. In case of the latter category of side effects seek medical aid immediately.
Certain preventive measures that you should ensure by consulting your doctor are if you have or are:
- Allergic to Atarax 25 MG Tablet or any other medicine, or foods or substances.
- A history of long QT syndrome (LQTS).
- Suffer from glaucoma.
- Heart diseases.

Take a low-power dose and for a short duration. In adults the dosage recommended is 25 mg about three to four times a day in case of treatment of Pruritus. For sedation in adults use about 50 to 100 mg (orally). Avoid alcohol while taking Atarax 25 MG Tablet. In case of drug overdose contact your health care provider right away.
Symptoms of overdose include seizures, sedation, hypotension. There is no specific treatment for an antihistamine overdose, however, most of its clinical toxicity is due to anticholinergic effects.
Anticholinesterase inhibitors may be useful by reducing acetylcholinesterase. For anticholinergic overdose with severe life-threatening symptoms, physostigmine 1-2 mg (0.5 mg or 0.02 mg/kg for children) I.V., slowly may be given to reverse these effects.
Take this drug as prescribed; do not increase dosage or discontinue without consulting prescriber. Store medication away from light. Maintain adequate hydration (2-3 L/day of fluids unless instructed to restrict fluid intake).
Void before taking medication. Do not use excessive alcohol or other CNS depressants or sleeping aids without consulting prescriber. Report unusual weight gain, unresolved nausea or diarrhea, chest pain or palpitations, muscle or joint pain, excess sedation, sore throat, or difficulty breathing.
Atarax 25 MG Tablet causes sedation, caution must be used in performing tasks which require alertness (ie, operating machinery or driving). Sedative effects of CNS depressants or ethanol are potentiated. S.C., intra-arterial, and I.V. administration are not recommended since thrombosis and digital gangrene can occur.
Extravasation can result in sterile abscess and marked tissue induration; should be used with caution in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, and bladder neck obstruction; should also be used with caution in patients with asthma or COPD.
