This medication is composed of Atorvastatin, Clopidogrel and belongs to a group of drugs known as “statins” and helps in the prevention of heart attack. It reduces the level of low-density lipoprotein or “bad cholesterol” in the body. The medicine helps in managing narrowing of arteries that arise due to high cholesterol levels in the body.

The drug increases the number of hepatic LDL receptors on the cell-surface, enhancing uptake and catabolism of LDL and it inhibits the hepatic synthesis of VLDL, thereby reducing the total number of VLDL and LDL particles. It is also a prodrug with anticoagulatory properties that is broken down by CYP450 enzymes to its active metabolite that prevents adenosine diphosphate (ADP) from binding to its platelet P2Y12 receptor. This inhibits the ADP-mediated activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex, which in turn inhibits coagulation.
