About Biocilin 500 MG Injection

Biocilin 500 MG Injection is an antibiotic medication used to fight bacterial infections. It is a semi-synthetic derivative of penicillin and treats urinary tract infections, pneumonia, respiratory tract infections, meningitis, or gonorrhea, infections of the stomach or intestines.

The doctor should be informed if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant during the course of this medicine. It is advised to avoid Biocilin 500 MG Injection if you are allergic to any penicillin antibiotic or you have received any immunisation of vaccination.

Biocilin 500 MG Injection hardly causes any side effects. In rare cases, side effects such as nausea, vomiting, high level of eosinophils, skin rashes, swelling of tongue and diarrhoea might occur.

      This medication treats respiratory tract infections like pneumonia and bronchitis, caused by bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus.

    • Endocarditis

      This medication can cure Endocarditis, an inflammation of inner layer of heart caused due to Streptococcus species i.e. Staphylococci, and Enterococci.

    • Bacterial Septicemia

      This medication also treats Septicemia, an infection of the blood caused by Staphylococci and Streptococcus pyogenes.

    • Urinary Tract Infection

      This medication treats urinary tract infection caused by E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

        Chloroquine

        The effect of Biocilin 500 MG Injection decreases, if taken in the presence of chloroquine. The doctor should be informed if you are receiving these two medications together. A time gap of at least 2 hours must be maintained between doses of these two medications.

        Doxycycline

        The effect of Biocilin 500 MG Injection is not fully observed in the presence of doxycycline. Inform the doctor if you are receiving these two medications together. An alternate medication would be prescribed by your doctor based on the clinical condition.

        Methotrexate

        Biocilin 500 MG Injection might increase the blood levels if taken with methotrexate, especially when large doses are given. Any symptoms of nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcers and low blood cell counts must be reported to the doctor as soon as possible. Suitable dose adjustments should be done or any other antibiotics can be considered based on the clinical condition.

        Warfarin

        Biocilin 500 MG Injection should be used with cautious with Warfarin, especially in the elderly population with kidney or liver injury. Any symptoms of bleeding, blood in vomiting or stools should be reported to the doctor. Frequent monitoring of blood cell count is advised.

        Impaired Kidney Function

        Biocilin 500 MG Injection is not recommended in patients suffering from impaired kidney functioning. Suitable dose adjustments have to be done based on the severity of kidney function. It is also advised to take kidney function tests regularly.

        Colitis

        Patients having a history of Colitis should be monitored closely while on this medication.

        Food

        This medication may not be completely absorbed in the presence of food. Hence, it should be taken at least an hour before or at least 2 hours after meals.
