About Biotax 1gm Injection

Biotax 1gm Injection is generally prescribed to treat bacterial infections of the brain, lungs, ear, urinary tract, skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, blood, and heart. The injection is used during surgeries or under the treatments of joint infections, meningitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pneumonia, sepsis, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea, and cellulitis. It belongs to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics.

The medication is an antibiotic that directly works on the affected area due to its nature of administration. It is administered as a drip (intravenous infusion) or directly into your veins or muscles on or around the area that needs to be treated. The medication should only be taken under the supervision of your medical consultant.

The recommended dose in adults is 0.5 grams a day to 12 grams divided into multiple doses per day. It is advised not to take this medicine if one is hypersensitive to Biotax 1gm Injection or other cephalosporins.

Do not take the medication in case you are pregnant, breastfeeding, and have a history of stomach or bowel problems, kidney problems or poor nutrition. Consult your doctor before making any decision related to the intake of Biotax 1gm Injection.

The common side effect of the medication includes pain and inflammation at the site of injection/infusion, nausea and vomiting, rash, diarrhoea, pruritus, or fever. These may settle down after one or two doses, but if not it can be a sign of allergy or any other form of reaction.

        Positive direct Coombs', false-positive urinary glucose test using cupric sulfate (Benedict's solution, Clinitest®, Fehling's solution), false-positive serum or urine creatinine with Jaffé reaction.

        • Increased effect: Probenecid may decrease cephalosporin elimination.
        • Increased toxicity: Furosemide, aminoglycosides may be a possible additive to nephrotoxicity.

        • Modify dosage in patients with severe renal impairment; prolonged use may result in superinfection; a potentially life-threatening arrhythmia has been reported in patients who received a rapid bolus injection via central line.
        • Use caution in patients with colitis; minimize tissue inflammation by changing infusion sites when needed.
        • Use with caution in patients with a history of penicillin allergy especially IgE-mediated reactions (eg, anaphylaxis, urticaria); may cause antibiotic-associated colitis or colitis secondary to C. difficile.
