Budecort 100Mcg Inhaler is a medication of the corticosteroid type that reduces inflammation in the body. It is available as a nasal spray, inhaler, pill and rectal form. For long-term management of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, the inhaler is used.

The nasal spray is used for nasal polyps and allergic rhinitis. The pill in a delayed release form and rectal form treat various inflammatory bowel diseases including ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and microscopic colitis.

There are a few side effects to taking this medicine as an inhaler which may include respiratory infections, cough, and headaches. Common side effects with the pills include vomiting, feeling tired and joint pains. Serious side effects include an increased risk of infection, cataracts and loss of bone strength.

Long-term use of the pill form may result in adrenal insufficiency. Stopping the use of the tablet suddenly after long-term use may therefore be dangerous. It is advised to use the inhaler form during pregnancy as it is considered to be a safer option.

Budecort 100Mcg Inhaler is not prescribed to anyone younger than 18 years old, anyone having allergy, or anyone who is breastfeeding. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, make sure you inform your doctor before taking this medicine.

Dosage is different for different people depending on their medical condition, the intensity of the medical condition, the age of the patient and so on. Do not intake more amounts of Budecort 100Mcg Inhaler than prescribed. Rinse your mouth after the inhalation to prevent mouth infections. Consult the doctor if you experience any serious side effects or if you suspect an overdose.

Symptoms of overdose include irritation and burning of the nasal mucosa, sneezing, intranasal and pharyngeal Candida infections, nasal ulceration, epistaxis, rhinorrhea, nasal stuffiness, headache.

When consumed in excessive quantities, systemic hypercorticism and adrenal suppression may occur, in those cases discontinuation and withdrawal of the corticosteroid should be done judiciously.

        • Controlled clinical studies have shown that inhaled and intranasal corticosteroids may cause a reduction in growth velocity in pediatric patients. Growth velocity provides a means of comparing the rate of growth among children of the same age.
        • FDA's Pulmonary and Allergy Drugs and Metabolic and Endocrine Drugs advisory committees discussed this issue at a July 1998 meeting. They recommended that the agency develop class-wide labeling to inform healthcare providers so they would understand this potential side effect and monitor growth routinely in pediatric patients who are treated with inhaled corticosteroids, intranasal corticosteroids or both.
        • Long-term effects of this reduction in growth velocity on final adult height are unknown. Likewise, it also has not yet been determined whether patients' growth will "catch up" if treatment in discontinued. Drug manufacturers will continue to monitor these drugs to learn more about long-term effects. Children are prescribed inhaled corticosteroids to treat asthma. Intranasal corticosteroids are generally used to prevent and treat allergy-related nasal symptoms.
        • Patients are advised not to stop using their inhaled or intranasal corticosteroids without first speaking to their healthcare providers about the benefits of these drugs compared to their risks.
