About Chlorthalidone
Chlorthalidone is a diuretic which treats high blood pressure. It may be used in combination with other medications to treat fluid retention. It functions by increasing the sodium and potassium elimination from the body through urine.
On using Chlorthalidone you may experience side effects such as stomach upset, dizziness, hives, drowsiness, constipation, skin rash, swelling, impotence, inflammation, muscle pain, weakness, rapid or irregular heartbeat, nausea, drying of mouth and vomiting. Should you experience any allergic reaction contact your health care provider right away.
Before using Chlorthalidone notify your doctor if: you are allergic to any ingredient contained within this medication, you have difficulty urinating, you have allergy to any foods, medicines or substances, you have gout or liver disease or low levels of potassium, you have asthma, you are already taking any medications, you are pregnant or are planning to become pregnant or are breastfeeding a baby.
The dosage should be prescribed by the doctor based on your overall medical history and current condition. However, the usual dose in adults to treat hypertension is 25 mg taken by mouth once daily. If response proves to be inadequate dose may be increased.
