This medication helps in treating vaginal infections, womb lining infections, gynecological infections, fungal skin infection of the vagina, ringworm, bacterial infections of internal organs, bacterial infections of female reproductive organs and other conditions associated with the vaginal discharge.

The medicine works by stopping the growth of fungi, killing bacteria and reducing the infection, inhibiting the growth of bacteria. It may interact with other drugs, herbs and vitamins and alter the way the of action.

Wash hands before using. At bedtime, gently insert capsule into vagina. Wash hands with soap and water following use. Remain lying down for 30 minutes following administration. Avoid intercourse during 7 days of therapy. Report adverse reactions (dizziness, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, or headache) or lack of improvement or worsening of condition.

Observe for changes in bowel frequency, monitor for colitis and resolution of symptoms; during prolonged therapy monitor CBC, liver and renal function tests should be periodically.

This medication belongs to the class lincosamide. It works by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome thus inhibits the protein synthesis in the bacteria and stops the growth of the bacteria. It also binds to phospholipids in the fungal cell membrane and alters its permeability. Lastly, a concentration gradient is created in the organism due to alteration in the molecule and promotes the influx of the molecule. Thus, the free radical and the altered molecule will interfere with the DNA synthesis and stops the growth of the organism.

  Dosage adjustment may be necessary in patients with severe hepatic dysfunction; can cause severe and possibly fatal colitis; use with caution in patients with a history of pseudomembranous colitis; discontinue drug if significant diarrhea, abdominal cramps, or passage of blood and mucus occurs. Contraindicated in patients with previous pseudomembranous colitis and hepatic impairment.
