About Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin)

Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin) is a medication that is used to treat a variety of skin diseases like eczema, including those caused by a bacterial or a fungal infection, such as athlete’s foot, jock itch, or ringworm. It is commonly used in combination with hydrocortisone. While Clioquinol (Iodochlorhydroxyquin) is an antibiotic that prevents the growth of bacteria or fungi, hydrocortisone reduces the swelling, itching and redness of the affected area of the skin. It is commonly available in the form of an ointment meant for topical application.

You must thoroughly clean and dry the affected area before applying the medication. Do not wrap the area with a cloth or bandage unless directed to do so by your doctor. Wash your hands properly before and after applying this ointment. This medicine is not to be used on children who are under two years of age. You may apply this medicine 3 or 4 times a day, or as directed by your physician. Do not let it go into your eyes, nose, mouth, or inside your vagina. In case this event occurs, wash the area with plenty of water to rinse it out.
