About Clofazimine
Clofazimine, is a medication used in combination with rifampicin and dapsone to treat Leprosy. This medication is indicated for treatment of lepromatous leprosy including dapsone-resistant leprosy complicated by erythema nodosum leprosum. A combination drug therapy is generally used to prevent the emergence of drug resistance.
Clofazimine, is a medication which is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Clofazimine or any of the excipients of Clofazimine. You must tell your doctor about all medications that you may be taking so that the doctor could fix the dosage accordingly.
Clofazimine, is an oral medicine to be taken with meals. This medicine is given at a dosage of 100 mg daily in combination with one or more other anti-leprosy drugs for three years, followed by monotherapy. The medicine should not be stopped suddenly or else it would cause a relapse.
Clofazimine, is also not devoid of side effects. There may be skin pigmentation, ichthyosis, dryness, rash, and pruritus. There could be gastro intestinal issues like abdominal or epigastric pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, elevated blood sugars, elevated ESR or discoloration of urine, faeces.
