How does this medication work?
This syrup is used in the treatment of peptic ulcers and other gastrointestinal ailments. The drug inhibits the release of the gastrin hormone, which in turn reduces the secretion of gastric juices. Simethicone is an antifoaming and antiflatulent agent which decreases gas in the GI tract by decreasing the surface tension of gas bubbles thus allowing them to coalesce and be expelled. Sucralfate belongs to the gastrointestinal agents. It works by forming an ulcer-adherent complex that covers the ulcer site and protects it against further attack by acid, pepsin, and bile salts.
