Criptal 2.5Mg Tablet is used in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease. It can control symptoms of hyperprolactinemia including excess production of breastmilk, hypogonadism, infertility and a number of disruptions in the menstrual cycle. The drug helps to control the abnormally high production of growth hormones, and can inhibit the growth of certain tumours that release excess amounts of prolactin.

Criptal 2.5Mg Tablet has strong dopaminergic effects and works by activating dopamine D2 receptors and also as a partial agonist of D1 receptors. Postsynaptic activation of D2 receptors lead to antiparkinson effects whereas presynaptic activation of D2 receptors lead to neuroprotective effects. Activation of D2 receptors in the nigrostriatal pathway is responsible for improving coordinated muscle movements in people with Parkinson’s. Criptal 2.5Mg Tablet also has prolactin inhibitory effect by inhibiting lactotrophic cells in the anterior pituitary from secreting prolactin due to increased production of dopamine.

Criptal 2.5Mg Tablet may cause some side effects including nausea, light-headedness, dizziness, drowsiness, vomiting, irregular heartbeat, hypotension, vasospasms, insomnia, depression and fatigue.
