About Cyproterone
Cyproterone is a medicine which falls into the category of anti-androgen, which necessarily means it reduces the action of male sex hormones known as androgen and hence reduces the production of the same. It can be administered both orally or injected. This drug is used in preventing and treating cancer in the prostate gland which is found in men. Also as it reduces the production of androgen, it results in lower sex drive in men and can be treated for very high sexual inclination. Cyproterone reduces production of testosterone in the gonads. This medicine is also used in treating over hair growth in both men and women and also skin problems like acne.
Common side effects of Cyproterone are reduced sex drive, inability to get erected, less semen ejaculation and lower sperm count in the semen among men. Apart from that there can be change and swelling in the male breasts, and release of fluid from the nipples in some cases. Restlessness, decreasing of body weight, weakness are some other problems. This medicine has also been the cause of depression in patients from both the genders. It is a medicine that needs the doctor’s advice before consumption.
