It allows for excretion of excessive amounts of water and sodium. As a result of this action, this medication has assumed the role of both an antihypertensive and diuretic. Torsemide belongs to the class loop diuretics. It reduces the blood pressure by inhibiting Na-K-2Cl reabsorption at ascending loop of Henle.
