The Food and Drug Administration has authorized Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 Vaccine for emergency use to prevent COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2. As per the guidelines under emergency use authorization, the vaccine is recommended to be used in individuals of age 18 years and older.

- Side effects usually are mild to moderate, occurring within 7 days of vaccination.
- The 18-59 years age group shows side effects more commonly than the age group of 60 years or more.
- The rate of occurrence of the complication ’‘thrombosis with thrombocytopenia’’ is 7 per 1 million women between 18 to 49 years of age, who have been vaccinated.
- The complication is rare for men as well as women more than 50 years of age.
Severe allergic reactions are rare that can develop within an hour after the administration of the vaccine. Some of them include difficulty in breathing, tachycardia, swelling of the face and throat, rashes all over the body, and dizziness.
