This syrup is an agent that causes diffusion of thick mucus. Uncontrolled quantity of nitric oxide (NO) is related to inflammation and other kinds of disruptions of the functioning of the airways. It inhibits the activation of guanylate cyclase which is nitric oxide dependent. This medication also works as a β2 adrenergic receptor that results in increase of cyclic AMP. Increased AMP leads to activation of protein kinase A which again prevents phosphorylation of myosin. All this mechanism leads to relaxation of smooth muscles. Lastly, it act as an expectorant which reduces adhesiveness and surface tension of congealed mucous in upper respiratory tract to increase flow of mucous, stimulating and increasing efficiency of the cilia to remove the accumulated mucous.
