Megasty 160mg Tablet

This medication is a synthetic form of the naturally occurring hormone progesterone. It is most commonly used as an appetite-stimulating agent in the treatment of anorexia and cachexia associated with HIV/AIDS.

It is also used as an antineoplastic agent in the palliate treatment of breast cancer or endometrial cancer. It mimics the action of progesterone by binding to progesterone receptors and stimulates the expression of target genes. Its antitumor properties are because of its progesterone agonist activity.

It leads to a decrease in the secretion of luteinizing hormone from the pituitary. This, in turn, leads to a decreased production of estrogen from the ovaries thus impeding the growth of estrogen-sensitive tumors.
