How does this medication work?
Metrogyl is a multi-medicated ointment. Metronidazole belongs to the class anthelmintics. It enters into the organism and forms the free radical. A concentration gradient is created in the organism due to alteration in the molecule and promotes the influx of the molecule. Thus, the free radical and the altered molecule will interfere with the DNA synthesis and stops the growth of the organism. Povidone Iodine present in the ointment acts by releasing iodine slowly on the skin surface. The released iodine stops the growth of bacteria, fungi, and other microbes. This results in the lysis of susceptible microorganisms.
