About Novamox 500 MG Capsule

As a penicillin antibiotic, Novamox 500 MG Capsule treats bacterial infections. It interferes with the synthesis of the cell walls in bacteria and stops it from growing. This is used to treat infections of the lungs and airways, skin, middle ear, sinuses, and the urinary tract.

It also treats conditions like tonsillitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, and gonorrhoea. This medication when used with an antibiotic clarithromycin, it treats stomach ulcers. You should not use it if you are allergic to any penicillin based antibiotic.

This medication can make birth control pills less effective, so ask your doctor about using non-hormonal birth control to prevent pregnancy during the treatment. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding.

Take this medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This medicine may be taken with or without food. Dosage is as per doctor’s prescription and it varies according to age, medical condition, and severity of the condition.

Take entire prescription, even if you are feeling better. Take at equal intervals around-the-clock; may be taken with milk, juice, or food.

If diabetic, drug may cause false tests with Clinitest® urine glucose monitoring; use of glucose oxidase methods (Clinistix®) or serum glucose monitoring is preferable. This drug may interfere with oral contraceptives; an alternate form of birth control should be used.

Symptoms of penicillin overdose include neuromuscular hypersensitivity (agitation, hallucinations, asterixis, encephalopathy, confusion, and seizures) and electrolyte imbalance with potassium or sodium salts, especially in renal failure.

Hemodialysis may be helpful to aid in the removal of the drug from the blood, otherwise most treatment is supportive or symptom directed.

        • Warfarin : Usage of this medication with Warfarin should be reported to the doctor. The clotting time should be monitored promptly. Symptoms like increased bleeding, swelling, dizziness and weakness should be reported immediately.
        • Ethinyl Estradiol : Usage of this medication with Ethinyl Estradiol decreases the effectiveness of oral contraceptive pills, which might result in unplanned pregnancies.

        • Mononucleosis : The condition should be reported to the doctor before taking this medication so that proper substitute can be prescribed.
        • Colitis : This medication should be discontinued if severe diarrhea occurs. Patients having a history of Colitis should be monitored closely.
