    How does this medication work?

This drop is a combination of Ofloxacin and Dexamethasone. The active ingredients fall under the class of fluoroquinolones and corticosteroid, respectively. This medicine alleviates the symptoms of the patient by working via a dual mechanism of action.

Firstly, it works as a bactericidal by inhibiting the bacterial DNA gyrase enzyme, which is essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This leads to expansion and destabilization of the bacterial DNA and causes cell death. It also works by reducing the excitation of the brain cells by inhibiting the sodium channels thus inhibits the repetitive firing of brain cells.

Secondly, it enters the cells through passive diffusion and binds to glucocorticoid receptors, forming a complex. This complex undergoes activation, enters the cell nucleus and binds to the DNA. This induces the natural effects of biological hormones.
