About Prazosin
Prazosin is a drug that is used with a combination of other medicines, that helps to prevent the risk of heart failures, high blood pressure that causes tightness of chest and breathing difficulties, chest pain. It belongs to the alpha blocker class of medicines and is as an alpha andregenic receptor antagonist that decreases the secretion of epinephrine and norepinephrine. This helps facilitating in vasodilation of blood vessels to relieve pain and stimulate proper blood circulation in the body. The drug usually stays in the patient’s body for a day at most and is gradually leaves the system through bile and feces.
The drug is contraindicated in patients who have suffered or are suffering from orthostatic hypotension (blood pressure drop upon standing), cataract surgery, intraoperative floppy iris syndrome and allergy to quinazoline analogues. The drug has been known to cause complications on interacting with certain drugs like aldesleukin, amiloride, amiodarone, aspirin, etc. it has been found to cause side effects like dizziness, fainting, nausea, headache, edema, blurred vision, nasal congestion, constipation, etc. These side effects gradually improve over time and though common they do not occur in each and every case. Overdose of Prazosin can cause problems hence it is suggested to seek out the advise of a doctor prior to the usage of the drug.

This medication works by blocking the postsynaptic alpha(1)-adrenoceptors present on vascular smooth muscle. Therefore, the vasoconstriction of circulating and locally generated catecholamines is stopped. As a result, peripheral vasodilation takes place.
