About Prelica Gel

Prelica Gel is a prescriptive drug primarily used to prevent seizures. It belongs to a class of drugs called anticonvulsants. Aside from seizures, Prelica Gel is also used to cure hot flashes, restless legs syndrome (RLS) and postherpetic neuralgia.

This medication treats nerve pain in adults by affecting the chemicals and nerve responsible for these pains and seizures. Prelica Gel can be used in combination with other drugs. Another brand of this medicine is Neurontin which can be given to both adults and children (at least three years of age). Although the same kind, do not substitute one for the other, only use the brand that has been specified by your doctor.

While under Prelica Gel medication it is advised that you avoid activities that may include lifting heavy objects or driving as common side effects of this drug are feelings of drowsiness, slowing down of cognitive skills and dizziness. Others include problems with coordination, speech problems, nausea, tremors, double vision or sudden jumpy movements.

If these effects persist and become more severe with the passage of time notify your physician immediately. Serious side-effects may include anger, restlessness, insomnia, skin rashes. An allergic reaction to Prelica Gel called anticonvulsant hypersensitivity syndrome can be fatal.

Before taking this medicine inform your doctor of the following conditions if you are or have:

  • Kidney
  • Liver disease.
  • Prone to epileptic or other kinds of seizure attacks.
  • Diabetes.
  • Depression
  • Mood disorders, or harbor thoughts of suicide.
  • Pregnant, or planning to become pregnant
  • Breastfeeding.

The daily dosage for Prelica Gel in adults is about 300mg to 600mg about three times a day. Measure your dose with a cup or a spoon or a syringe. The gaps between the three doses should not exceed 12 hours. This drug can be taken with or without food. In case of a missed dose take it as soon as possible. Do not drug overdose. If already time for your next dose skip it. Contact your doctor instantly in the case of a drug overdose.

        Impaired Kidney Function

        This medicine should be used with caution in patients with kidney impairment. Monitoring of kidney function is necessary. Dose adjustments are to be made based on CrCl.

        Use cautiously in patients with severe renal dysfunction; rat studies demonstrated an association with pancreatic adenocarcinoma in male rats; clinical implication unknown. May cause CNS depression, which may impair physical or mental abilities. Patients must be cautioned about performing tasks which require mental alertness (i.e, operating machinery or driving). Effects with other sedative drugs or ethanol may be potentiated.
