How does this medication work?
This medication is composed of Prilocaine and Lidocaine. Prilocaine is a local anaesthetic that works by inhibiting depolarisation of the voltage gated sodium channel and stabilising the neuronal membrane. This leads to a decrease in the permeability of the membrane which reduces the influx of sodium required to conduct impulses. Lidocaine is a local anaesthetic and antiarrhythmic that works by stabilising the neuronal membrane by blocking the voltage gated sodium channels.
