About Ranolazine

Ranolazine is an antianginal medication. It is used in the treatment of angina. It is can be used on its own or in combination with other medications.

On using Ranolazine you may experience side effects such as weakness, stomach pain, dryness of mouth, dizziness, difficulty with bowel movements, bloating, chest pain, trouble with breathing, agitation, aggression, chills, cold sweats, nausea, tingling sensations, sudden weight gain or loss and rapid or irregular heartbeat. Seek medical attention if you face any adverse reactions on using this medication.

Before using this medication tell your doctor if: you are allergic to any ingredient contained within Ranolazine, you have any other allergies, you are taking other prescription or non-prescription drugs, you have liver cirrhosis, you suffer from liver/ kidney disorders, you have diabetes, you are pregnant or are breastfeeding a baby.

The dosage should ideally be prescribed by the doctor based on your age, overall medical history and current condition. The usual dose in adults prescribed for treating Angina Pectoris is 500 mg to be taken orally two times a day. The dose may be increased to 1000 mg per day depending on responses to therapy.

    How does this medication work?

    The exact mechanism of action of this medication is not known, but experiments show that it is a P-gp inhibitor. It does that by changing the trans-cellular late sodium current. This is how it during myocardial ischemia, it affects the sodium-dependent calcium channels.
