About Rasburicase
Rasburicase prevents rise in uric acid levels specifically in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. The drug is prescribed to patients who have leukemia and cancer of the lymph nodes. It is known to be a urate dase enzyme.
During the process of chemotherapy, cancer cells are attacked and killed. When this occurs, very large quantities of uric acid is produced in the body, which can result in complications. Thus, Rasburicase maintains normal uric acid levels, by helping the kidney discard the excess.
The drug is administered with the help of an injection. It should not be shaken before use. Avoid using Rasburicase if the bottle is cloudy or cracked.
Common side effects that can occur after using Rasburicase are headache, constipation, diarrhea, nausea, ulcers in the mouth, pain in the stomach and vomiting. Beware of any major allergic reactions to the drug. Inform your doctor if you experience any symptoms like itching, hives, redness of the skin, problems with breathing, chills, pain in the chest or dizziness.
Uric acid tests are commonly performed in patients taking this drug. Certain other tests will also be prescribed from time to time.

This medication is used to control acute myelogenous leukaemia, non-Hodgkin''s lymphoma and lymphoid leukaemia. An inactive and soluble metabolite is formed after the drug catalyzes enzymatic oxidation of uric acid.
