Ringer Lactate R Solution
About Ringer Lactate R Solution
This medication is useful for treating vomiting, diarrhoea, dehydration and cholera. The solution is administered either through an intravenous fluid injection or through a process known as electrolyte therapy.
The solution is composed of sodium chloride, sodium lactate, potassium chloride and calcium chloride in water and is also called Hartmann’s solution. It is also used to compensate for blood loss due to trauma, surgery or in burn cases. Since the lactate in the solution is metabolised in the liver to bicarbonate, it counters metabolic acidosis and maintains a stable blood pH better than saline.
