How does this medication work?
Smuth ointment is a multi-drug composition, thus works via multiple mechanisms. It works as a local anesthetic that works by stabilizing the neuronal membrane by blocking the voltage-gated sodium channels. This inhibits depolarization of the postsynaptic nerve that prevents the transmission of pain signals. Secondly, it reduces the fragility and leakage of the small blood vessels by working on the walls of these small blood vessels, thus reduces the inflammation and redness. It also reduces skin inflammation. Your body releases different chemicals in response to certain triggers. Hydrocortisone works by stopping the infection-fighting white blood cells from reaching the part of your body which is prone to infections. Lastly, it worked as an antiseptic and astringent as well. They altogether work and alleviates the disease symptoms.
