Tamoxifen
About Tamoxifen
Different types of breast cancer thrive on estrogen to grow and spread. Tamoxifen helps to block the functioning of this estrogen in a cancer that turn metastasized. It also helps to lower the chances of breast cancer in women with a high risk of developing it.
Tamoxifen is not to be taken if you’re pregnant as it could potentially harm the baby. If you have a history of liver disease, cataract, stroke, or high triglycerides, tell your doctor. Your doctor may ask you to undergo mammograms and breast self exams in order to find out if the medicine is not causing harm.
Measure Tamoxifen using proper measuring spoons or cups. It can be taken with or without food, according to the doctor’s directions. While taking this medicine, you may need to take several blood tests. If you have surgery or any other medical test coming up, you may need to stop using it for a short period.
Tamoxifen increases your chances of developing a blood clot or a stroke. If you have a breast lump, unusual bleeding from the vagina, blurred vision, liver problems and hot flashes, call your doctor immediately.
