About Telbivudine
Telbivudine is a type of antiviral drug that is used to treat heaptitis B infection. It is a synthetic thymidine that works by impairing the DNA replication of hepatitis B virus.
You should not take Telbivudine if you have high levels of lactic acid in your blood, or an enlarged liver, or allergic to the medicine or any ingredient used in it. It is recommended that you consult a doctor before taking Telbivudine if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding, taking any medication or supplements, have undergone liver transplant, or had muscle or nerve problems in the past, if you are overweight, have been diagnosed with any other type of hepatitis, kidney problems, or have been receiving dialysis.
The common side effects that you may experience after taking Telbivudine includes cough, back pain, dizziness, diarrhoea, joint pain, headache, nausea, tiredness, pain in stomach, sore throat, or troble in sleeping. If any of these effects become bothersome or continue for prolonged periods then you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
Telbivudine is available as tablets of strength 600mg, which are to be taken orally. You have to take it once everyday, with or without food, but it is advised that you consult your doctor regarding the appropiate dosage.

This medicine causes inhibition to HBV DNA polymerase by way of competition to the natural substrate, thymidine 5-triphosphate. This causes termination of synthesis of DNA strands inhibiting the viral replication process.
