The insulin should be stored between 2-8 degree centigrade. But it should not be freezed or stored in room temparature. Therefore, store the insulin pen in the door of the refrigerator.
Insulin pens are available which have a very fine needle making the whole process nearly painless. Also rotate the sites of injection to have less pain.
