You simply have to follow the instructions of your doctor who will treat you for the thyroid condition (or for any other problem if detected after medical check up and other investigations ). Ideally both the partners (husband and wife) should go for a counselling while certain tests are done to make sure all is well to proceed for a safe pregnancy.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Untreated or improperly treated hypothyroidism does lead to difficulty in conceiving. Because hypothyroidism causes disturbance in menstrual cycle and ovulation. Therefore, it is essential to achieve a strict control on TSH level. Ideally TSH should be maintained around 3 to 4 mU/L. For being free from all the symptoms of that condition. However, if there is a desire to get pregnant then TSH has to be maintained around 2 mU/L, before conception. Later during the gestational period trimester specific TSH levels should be maintained. Thanks.

You might not get the right information from your treating doctor if he is not aware of the pitfalls of the testing and treatment protocols. T4 has to get converted to T3 only in the presence of a healthy liver and adequate levels of nutrients like, Iodine,Zinc, Iron,Magnesium ,B12 ,Selenium and many others. The water you drink and take bath, Tooth paste you use ,Antibacterial soaps, Deodorants,Perfumes ,cooking oils ,cooking pots ,Plastics, foods like wheat and more have chemicals which interfere with your thyroid hormone synthesis and functioning.
