My mother 94 years old is a dementia patient and is on qutipin 25 mg half tablet daily since 8 years. Of late, she is not listening to our requests and suddenly becomes angry. I have consulted a psychiatrist who advised olimelt 5 mg half tablet daily. After using it for 3 days I have discontinued it because it appears that her condition worsened. She is not taking food also and does not hear to us. Pl. H elp me to save my mother.

Cut short the advice in bits and pieces like don't say her to eat food instead ask her to sit ,then hold the food, put it inside the mouth, chew. In this way patients of dementia are to be given commands.

Dear Palisetty, It is difficult to live with an old mother - more so if she is dementing. Please treat her like a child and feed her like how you have fed a 6 months old baby. Please learn from the situations - those make her angry. The same situations can be handled in a different way to reduce her anger. Quetiapine and olanzapine may not help much. Her condition will worsen as age advances. Join support group of Alzheimer's disease society and get few tips from other members. For 1-2 weeks, take off from her and make another sibling to help her. Your burn out will come down.
