You should consult your doctor for your sleep problems because both medicines can make you sleepy and drowsy. So maybe the dose may need to be reviewed. Weight gain is also one of the side effects and you need to monitor your eating and exercise habits regularly. Your intention of leaving the medication is good but not until your problem is resolved entirely. I recommend that you go for some therapy and learn some skills, techniques, and tools to handle your condition psychologically. Life is full of problems as a norm. Any attempts to escape will never help and lead to anxiety: you must learn to face these problems every day with good success. The counselor will help you in this regard. I also firmly believe that every crisis offers an opportunity for change if you seek it and grab the opportunity. Please meet with a counselor and work on your emotions, particularly anger. Exercise is very important but you have to build on it developmentally. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend yoga classes, etc. Watch sitcoms on tv or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it, and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in god to alleviate your sufferings. Don?t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression and anxiety rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard work must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be content with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and medicine, and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

Dear lybrate-user, there are many alternative tablets to treat your condition. But before switching to alternate tablets, we need to give a sufficient dose for sufficient time. Please report to your doctor. She/he will increase the dose for 2-3 weeks and again assess you before changing the tablet.

Dear lybrate-user, the symptoms you expressed clearly say you need to fight hard but with therapeutic support, which you have not tried so farwith depression and anxiety. If you decide to leave the medicine your doctor will be theright one to advise you on this. The doctor will eventually reduce the dose and get you out of it. Depression simply makes you withdraw from all the activities and makes you lethargic. All we have to do is fight against this in the exact opposite way. To begin with, meet people, makenew friends and join groups todoactivities like cycling, walking, etc. Exposeyourself to sunlight for at least 30 min a day. Wake up at 6 or 6: 30 am max. Don't compromise on the time even if you don't fall asleep at the night, push yourself to wake up at 6 or 6: 30 am, and follow this routine. Follow a healthy diet, and add a lot of protein and vegetables to your diet. add these 3 rules to your life 1. Always be responsible 2. Always be respectful 3. Always be functional. This will simplify your life to a larger extent.along with this going for therapy will support you to be more actively participating in all these activities & a therapist can be your guide to monitor you regularly.

I think there are other issues like obesity along with sleep issues. Obesity can lead to something called as obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (osas). It will not be benefitted by taking these above medications. Kindly consult a physician or psychiatrist and get your sleep evaluated with help of polysomnography (sleep study ). But, as a general measure I would suggest regular exercise / walking to reduce your weight and also practice sleep hygeine. Which you will get on google search. All the best.
