About Baclofen
Baclofen is an anti-spastic agent and a muscle relaxer. It treats muscle symptoms caused by multiple sclerosis or spinal cord lesions, including pain, muscle spasm, and stiffness. Baclofen also treats symptoms related to any injury or disease of the spinal cord.
Baclofen is not approved for anyone younger than 12 years old, anyone having an allergy toward it, or anyone who is breastfeeding at the time. It is advised to avoid consumption of alcohol after starting the course of the medicine. Intake of Baclofen may reduce your muscle tone for some time so it may effect your body balance and ability to perform certain activities.
It is also not safe for during pregnancy. Consult your doctor about taking this medicine if your have a kidney disease, a history of stroke or blood clots, epilepsy or other seizure disorders, or if you are taking a narcotic medication.
Some side effects of using this medicine may include ringing or buzzing in the ears, skin rashes, dizziness, muscle weakness, constipation, changes in mood, confusion, nausea or vomiting, headache and difficult or painful urination.
The doctor will prescribe your medicine based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Do not discontinue this medication without consulting your doctor. Your condition could become worse and you may experience withdrawal symptoms such as seizures and hallucinations.
To prevent this, your doctor may reduce your dose gradually. It is usually recommended to take this medicine three times a day, with or without food. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.
Take this drug as prescribed. Do not discontinue without consulting prescriber (abrupt discontinuation may cause hallucinations). Do not take any prescription or OTC sleep-inducing drugs, sedatives, antispasmodics without consulting prescriber.
You may experience transient drowsiness, lethargy, or dizziness; use caution when driving or engaging in tasks requiring alertness until response to drug is known. Frequent small meals or lozenges may reduce GI upset. Report unresolved insomnia, painful urination, change in urinary patterns, constipation, or persistent confusion.

How does this medication work?
This medicine belongs to the skeletal muscle relaxants class of drugs. It works by inhibiting the monosynaptic and polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal levels and decreases the release of excitatory neurotransmitters from the afferent terminal.
